    I was hoping it would work for RUclips, but I don't see that here. That's not your fault, it's RUclips's. Instagram allows me to remove words that I don't want to see but YT, unfortunately, does not.

    Ask a question, Search for an emotional and tangible reason they might by your product/service. For example, I sell basement finishing. I may see a couple with kids walk past and ask “Do you know the number 1 reason our customers finish there basements?”….. they respond no…. “To get there adult space back.” Then navigate conversation from there. But a targeted question can create interest in what you are offering quickly and weed out people who are not in the market for what you have equally as quickly.

    Another tip that I see a lot: if you interview lots of people on street ask the same question that you did on ur first interview with someone so you can edit the video clips later and the first video clip will be the question to person one and he/she answers ur question but then the next video clip will be only the answer.. not ur question again… cut ur question away that you recorded.. . Only show the opinion of person 2 then person 3 but in person 1 you always let the audience hear the question that you ask.. then you only show opinions of the same question at the next clips that you will show in person 2 person 3… hope you understand what I meant here

    For those of you old enough to remember watching Johnny Carson host the Tonight Show (1962-1992) I doubt that you can name a more talented interviewer. There are a number reasons why Johnny Carson ruled the late night television talk show airwaves for three decades. Johnny Carson’s reign as the host of NBC’s Tonight Show is still remembered and talked about as the pinnacle of talk show hosting twenty-five years after Carson went off the air. How often do we hear “There will never be another Johnny Carson?” Carson wanted his interaction with his guests to be totally spontaneous during the show. He almost never saw his guests before they came on stage. He didn’t go say hello to guests in their dressing rooms or the Green Room before the show. Rarely did guests see Johnny Carson when they were having stage make-up applied. Everything was totally fresh when guests interacted with Carson on set. When the show went into commercial breaks Carson rarely spoke with guests because he didn’t want something that would best be heard on air to come up off-camera as it wouldn’t be as good if retold after the commercial break. Any of us who interview people be it on radio, TV, podcast, in front of an audience of any kind or even just one on one in front of a camera or microphone should definitely take a cue from the master. Keep an interview as live as possible. If you give out questions in advance the interview will appear canned, not spontaneous and it won’t have the same level of excitement. You can put people at ease by giving them a broad summary of the general topics you plan on discussing but never get into detail. The last thing you want is for an interview to feel as if it is rehearsed and too prepared because it will feel phony and will not be as believable. People need to "think out loud" at times to showcase their expertise. It is natural to be nervous about being being interviewed as people are fearful of being blindsided al la "60-Minutes." Most interviews are friendly and they can also be edited if there are not live or part of a TV show. You can reassure your subjects that your interview will not put them in an uncomfortable position, that they are experts in what you will discuss and they will be able to form a response very easily. When I am going to interview somebody I often give them a general idea about the main topics I want to talk about in very general terms for example the introduction of a new product they were responsible for bringing to market and their responsibility with their company. Usually such topics are obvious and I would discuss those when asking them for the interview. If people ask for questions in advance let them know that you do not provide them as your experience has been that they will not come across as well. It is you job to make them shine and if a topic isn't handled in a way that gets their point across that you will ask additional questions (mention that you will edit the interview if you do so). You can also put them at ease by providing them access to other interviews that you have produced.

    • @SparkMediaSolutions
      @SparkMediaSolutions 7 лет назад

      This is all amazingly good advice. One thing to note is most, not all the people Carson had on his show were celebrities and knew how to handle themselves on camera. Also, on a talk show people are willing to take more risks than they are with John and David on the microphone. People can say no to an interview with us. They can't with Johnny. We're not afforded such a wonderful luxury. People desperately wanted to be on his show and he called the shots. When I'm working with a client they are so desperate that the right "message" gets out that they feel the need to "control" the shoot. They truly think they're helping. And what is most frustrating is even when I tell a client multiple times DO NOT SEND THE QUESTIONS beforehand, they still send the questions. I unfortunately don't have the same type of authority Johnny Carson had. I just edited a video where the questions were sent beforehand and it looks staged.

    • @JohnInDallas
      @JohnInDallas 7 лет назад

      Good points, David. One thing that might help clients is for them to remind people being interviewed that they want the interviews to go well and to put the person who his interviewed in a good light. If they do not think the interview is going well they will either ask additional questions so that they can edit out responses that are lackluster or that don't come across powerfully and as knowledgable or either redo or not use the interview. I have interviewed people and then when the interview was concluded spoke with the person who said they wish that they had mentioned something else during the interview and we have turned on the recording equipment to add additional comments, which I then edited into the final interview. The interviews that I conduct don't include "Gotcha Questions" and I want the interviews to go well as much as and probably even more more so than the person being interviewed. It is part of my job as the person conducting interviews is to make my guests feel as comfortable before, during and after the interview. I work hard to convince them why I do not provide questions the interview giving them examples of how they actually harm how they will appear. I regularly suggest folks checkout previous interviews that I have conducted and if they wish I gladly provide them contact information for a guest or two to talk with so they can feel less apprehensive and more comfortable. I have been successful in obtaining impressive guests as interviewees because I have expertise with good instincts and my guests have been extremely pleased with the results. I work to make new interview guests aware of this during the sell-in process and ask them to trust my subject.

    • @SparkMediaSolutions
      @SparkMediaSolutions 7 лет назад

      Well, I wish I had greater interaction but it doesn't go that seamlessly. What usually happens is I say repeatedly, "DO NOT send questions beforehand." I do it over and over again. I put it in emails. And then some marketing person who wasn't involved writes up some questions and sends it to the interviewee thinking that they're helping out and while they're not the questions I'm going to ask, it essentially derails everything. It happens ALL THE TIME.

    I'm shocked!! They cannot explain Virtualization to their Mom because even they do not really know what it is!! So shameful, and they're playing the smart guys!! I'm more shocked because none of them did try to take the question seriously or has been smart enough to understand that the idea behind the question was to present a smart and very clear explanation of Virtualization that every person could understand, also upset because none of them did show at least respect to his mom, all of them are a bunch of pseudo-techy weaky dump people, I only except the one who appeared at 0:27 (at least modest) and especially the man at 1:30 who I salute because he's the only who on .the contrary tried seriously to give a definition without missing praising his mom and showing love and appreciation to her .NB: the interviewer at 0:35 ("you can't even explain it to yourself"), he also understood the point

    • @SparkMediaSolutions
      @SparkMediaSolutions 7 лет назад

      It's actually a challenge to simplify a complicated concept especially when you're swimming in an environment where everyone is talking at a level assuming everyone knows what virtualization is. I've done this challenge to explain other difficult topics and I must say a lot of people have trouble. But usually, the people who succeed are the ones who create an analogy or liken it to something we already use.
